Judging to commence at the Dairy Cattle lines and competitors are asked to report to Chief Steward, Mr R. Leamon at 12:00 noon at Cattle Tent.
Prize Money: 1st $10 and Sash; Runner-up $6 and Sash
CONDITIONS:
- Competitors must be Novices, may be of either sex, but must be under the age of 21 years on the day of Competition at the Pakenham Show.
- Not less than three animals of one breed will be provided for judging, and such animals will be placed in order 1st, 2nd, 3rd by the Competitor in accordance with points awarded.
- Each competitor will be allowed equal time (10 minutes suggested) and will be provided with a card on which he or she will indicate the placing of each animal. On completion the card is handed to the Steward for presentation to the Judge who will allocate further points in accordance with the directions shown on Part 2 of the Scoreboard, and if he so desires, question the competitor on any points in his judgement or any other feature in connection with the cattle being judged.

REGULATIONS FOR STATE FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION
An exhibitor having won at a Agricultural show, will be required to bake another cake for entry in the Group Final, winner of Group final will be required to bake a further cake for State Final at the next Royal Melbourne Show. An exhibitor having won at show level is not eligible to enter any other show in this section, until after group judging when, if not the winning entry, can compete further. An exhibitor having won group level cannot compete further until after the Royal Melbourne Show. Each cake entered must be the bona fide work of the exhibitor. 139 RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION – Senior or Open

The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants in this section.
RICH FRUIT CAKE
250g (8oz) sultanas ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg
250g (8oz) chopped raisins ½ teaspoon ground ginger
250g (8oz) currants ½ teaspoon ground cloves
125g (4oz) chopped mixed peel 250g (8oz) butter
90g (3oz) chopped glace cherries 250g (8oz) soft brown sugar
90g (3oz) chopped blanched almonds ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
1/3 cup sherry or brandy ½ teaspoon almond essence
250g (8oz ) plain flour ½ teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind
60g (2oz) self raising flour
4 large eggs
Here is what you do:
1) Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Cover, leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably over night.
2) Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition,then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to
support a wooden spoon.
3) Place the mixture into a prepared square tin, 20cm (8”), no rounded corners and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3½-4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin.
NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size, it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2-3 pieces, cherries into 4 or 6 pieces and the almonds crosswise into 3 or 4 pieces.

140 JUNIOR STATE CAKE COMPETITION (Under 18 years)
Prizes: 1st $5.00 plus Certificate, 2nd $2.00 plus Certificate
The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants in this section.
Use Metric cup measure.
375g (12oz) mixed fruit ½ cup sherry
¾ cup brown sugar 2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon mixed spice 2 tablespoons marmalade
½ cup water 1 cup self raising flour
125g (4oz) butter 1 cup plain flour
½ teaspoon bicarbonate soda ¼ teaspoon salt
Here is what you do:
1. Place the Sunbeam mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter in a large saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, remove from heat, add bicarbonate soda, and allow to cool.
2. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well.
3. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients, then place in a greased and lined 20cm (8”) round cake tin.
4. Bake in a moderately slow oven, for 1½ hours or until cooked when tested.

- A soft foam/rubber landing pad will be provided.
Owners may locate themselves at their own discretion, on or near
the obstacle.
Entries will be accepted at the Secretary’s Office on the day
and must be lodged before 11 am.
The Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any entry or vary the
conditions of any event or to cancel any event without assigning any reason.
The selection of the finalists and all judging will be final, and no appeal or
correspondence will be entertained on either issue.

In view of the Anti-Cancer Council recommendations, we encourage appropriate hats to be worn in all sections. Contestants are required to wear an outfit suitable for attending a Country Agricultural Show.
Entries will be taken on show day at the judging area from 11am. Judging Commences 1pm.

Mount Board or pre-cut mounts can be purchased from Pakenham Photo Barn or any arts supplies store. Unmounted and framed glass prints will not be accepted. All photos presented must be on photographic paper.
Creative digital prints can be entered in “ANY OTHER SUBJECT” class, but must be the original work of the entrant, either from a negative or a print which may be digitally altered. Images generated from computer programs or software will not be accepted.
ALL PRINTS MUST HAVE EXHIBITOR’S NAME, ADDRESS, CATEGORY AND CLASS WRITTEN ON BACK OF EACH PHOTO.
Any photograph receiving a prize in a previous Pakenham Show is ineligible to enter. The same print may not be entered in multiple classes.

Held under the rules and regulations of the Organising Committee of the World Gumboot Throwing Championship.
This event will be held in front of the main stand.
(A size 8 gumboot is to be used for throwing).
There will be 4 sections to this event: A Trophy and Sash will be
awarded to each winner and a Ribbon for 2nd and 3rd.
The winner in Sections 1 and 2 will also each win a $50 Voucher from Cardinia Club Complex (to be taken Monday or Tuesday).
